Experience The Legend for yourself and discover why The Broadmoor Golf Club remains one of the world’s most celebrated golf destinations.

Set in the Cheyenne Mountain foothills of Colorado Springs, the original Broadmoor Golf Club's 18-hole course was designed by classic architect Donald Ross in 1916 at the behest of Spencer Penrose, who envisioned turning his new rough, mountain property into a world-class resort. Ross, who had designed golf courses for several of the top clubs in the country, declared The Broadmoor's golf course in Colorado Springs his best work. An impressive statement, considering his last project had been another classic layout now named Pinehurst No. 2.

When Broadmoor East opened in 1918, it was the highest golf course in the United States at 6,400 feet in elevation. In 1948, Robert Trent Jones, Sr. was hired to design an additional nine-hole course. Jones' new nine-hole course joined with nine of Ross' original holes, opened in 1952 as the new East Course. The first nine holes of the original Ross 18 became known as the "Back Nine."

In 1964, Robert Trent Jones, Sr. was asked to come back and design nine new holes in addition to redesigning nine holes of the original course, forming the West Course.

In 1918, “Long Jim” Barnes became the first golf professional at The Broadmoor. He was the highest paid pro in the world at the time making $15,000 for the summer. Barnes was followed by the great English professionals, James Gullane and Jimmy Thompson. Ed Dudley was Head Professional here in the summer and Augusta National in the winter from 1941 until 1957 when he took on the job full time at The Broadmoor until his passing in 1963. Besides his 15 PGA Tour wins, Dudley was known for his famous students, including President Dwight Eisenhower, singer Bing Crosby and comedian Bob Hope. Dow Finsterwald served as The Broadmoor’s head golf professional for 28 years. Dow is an 11-time PGA tour winner, PGA Championship winner in 1958 and former Ryder Cup player and captain. He has also won the Vardon Trophy for lowest stoke average on the PGA Tour and served as a vice president for the PGA of America. Still spending summers in Colorado Springs, Dow is a member of the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame.

Presidents, politicians, celebrities, athletes, and some of the greatest names in golf have all played at The Broadmoor. Consistently ranked among the best in the world, the courses have challenged them all.

Experience The Legend for yourself and discover why The Broadmoor remains the premier Colorado golf resort and one of the world's most honored golf destinations.
